On completing your purchase online of "Skill for Life", you will receive a Group Directory covering all local IAM Groups for you to contact the one nearest to you (or the most convenient). How to be a better driver

'How to be a better driver' describes in clear and easy to understand terms and pictures what is required to achieve the Advanced Driving Test (including a very useful section entitled 'What the examiner looks for'). It is very much based on the principles of the Police books 'Roadcraft', but explains exactly what is required for the IAM Test.

This book is included in the 'Skill for Life' pack when you join the IAM is also available separately.

Q. What is DriveCheck?

DriveCheck is a short Driving Assessment aimed at everyone who is interested in safer driving but who doesn't feel they are (yet) ready to take the IAM Advanced Test.

DriveCheck applicants are put in touch with their local IAM Group who will in turn arrange a mutually convenient time for the assessment to take place.

It takes about an hour comprising an initial introduction (document check etc.), followed by a 35-40-minute drive with the Group observer, followed by a feedback session, at which the candidate will be presented with a written feedback form.

DriveCheck is NOT available for existing IAM Members, who instead should have a Members Driving or Riding Assessment.

Q. What is DriveCheck55?

No tests, no published results, just a relaxed one-to-one session with a qualified IAM examiner. Your DriveCheck55 assessment will help remind you of some good driving procedures, identify a few bad habits and give you a reassured feeling of confidence on our increasingly busy roads.

You will get a 60 minute drive with an IAM qualified examiner in your own car at a time to suit you. On completion you will be given a comprehensive driving report.
